SAKA SAWA 2025 – A MONTH OF MERIT AND SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
Date: May 28 – June 25, 2025
Most Auspicious Day (Saka Dawa Duchen): June 11, 2025
Celebrating Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment, and Parinirvana
The Significance of Saka Dawa
Saka Dawa marks the most sacred period in our annual spiritual calendar. Named after the prominent Saka star visible during this fourth lunar month, this precious time invites us to intensify our spiritual practice through mindful observation of precepts and wholehearted engagement with the Dharma.
In our Gelugpa lineage, we honour this extraordinary month as the convergence of three momentous events in Lord Buddha’s life journey—his entry into this world, his complete awakening beneath the Bodhi tree, and his final transcendence beyond suffering. The full moon of Saka Dawa (June 11) illuminates these transformative moments that forever changed the spiritual landscape of our world.
Our teachers remind us that during this auspicious time, the fruits of our actions—whether virtuous or harmful—ripen with extraordinary potency. The spiritual atmosphere becomes exceptionally charged, allowing our positive intentions to flourish with unprecedented strength, creating lasting imprints on our mindstream that guide us toward liberation.

“When we gather during Saka Dawa, we create a field of positive energy that ripples outward, touching countless lives. Every offering made with sincere devotion, every moment of stillness in meditation, every act of compassion toward another being—these become powerful causes for the awakening of wisdom in our hearts and the alleviation of suffering throughout our world.” – Lam Rim Temple
